After the Fact and Before the Fall

For most of my life, I didn’t pay attention to the world of politics. The broad strokes, sure, not the smaller details. I am a child of the 1960s and 70s when the fight for rights, freedom of choice, freedom of expression, pulled us along. Things have changed and old questions have no good answers.

Donald Trump will once again occupy the White House. Because he is mentally incompetent, I suspect he will be removed from office before too long and replaced with Vice President J.D. Vance, who as of this writing issued a statement to the millions of illegal immigrants currently living in the United States: “Pack your bags, you’re going home.” Or something to that effect.

The Republican Party is built on grievance and suppression. They don’t seem to want to build anything except a tower of lies and resentment, then ask for money so they can fix the problems they’ve created. Nice work, if you can get it, and they surely seem to have it.

Yes, some illegal immigrants commit crimes. So do US citizens. Do illegal immigrants commit crime in larger numbers than citizens? No. Does it matter? It should. But if you’re trying to get people to give you money, you need to come up with a story about how things really are.

Donald Trump told his party not to vote the border security bill that would have provided more ICE agents…
